open doors

I do not know why but Gadget is fascinated with opening doors....

It all started when he use to sit on the counter top in between the stove and the fridge and freezer.

He is now old enough to figure out how to use those little extra thumbs he has on his front paws. He has learned how to pick things up and bring them to his mouth. Sometimes he looks like a squirrel when he sits on his back paws and brings a ball up to his mouth.

Well, he for some reason enjoys the cold, and discovered that the freezer has very cold air in it. So one day I came home from work to find the freezer wide open. I figured, I must not have closed it all the way after grabbing my lean cuisine lunch meal out. I just shut it and walked away. A few days later, I came home and again it was open...this struck me as very odd, but again blamed myself and moved on.
It wasnt until one night that i heard the door open and walked over to it and saw the cat with his body all twisted so that his back legs were on the counter and his front paws and face with eyes closed stuck in the freezer...just enjoying the cool breeze. I could not believe it! I wish I had gotten a picture but didnt think about it. So i took the cat down and shut the door.
Well needless to say I had to send my husband out to Buy Bye Baby to get something to baby-proof the freezer. So now we have child locks on the fridge and freezer.

However....

We went on vacation last week to Riviera Maya down in Mexico...when we returned my mom told me that the cat kept trying to get into the cupboards - both the ones near the floor where she keeps the pots and pans and also the ones up over the counter where the dishes were. She said he couldnt actuallyget the door all the way open, he would just pull it open a little bit and then it would close and bounce up and down a few times making a very annoying sound.

Well, we brought him back to the apartment, and now all this evening, all I can hear is the cupboards near the floor opening and banging shut over and over again...He will figure out how to open them completely by either sticking his face in the way or by sitting on his back paws and using both front ones to open it....he will get there eventually - but for now all i get is clunk clunk clunk...

yippee....

Oh what a curious cat I have....

So...I have not updated in awhile but I figured I would share how this cat can not read humans.

I am sick as a dog - Bronchitis - taking lots of medicine and am coughing like crazy. I am in my warm comfy sweats and curled up on the couch with a blanket.

Now this is when most cats decide to come and be nice and curl up with you to make you feel better...not Gadget.

He decided to bring me his little red mouse. He loves to play fetch - sometimes I think he doesnt understand he is a cat and not a dog. He brings me different toys and waits like a dog for me to throw the toy. Then he will chase it knock it around a bit and then finally decide to bring it back where he sometimes drops it in my hand or at my feet and then backs up and crowtches down and waits for me to throw it again.

He especially loves when you throw toys under the dining room table because now its not only the toy he has to get but its like a jungle gym for him. He flips over then legs of the chairs plus the bars under the table and chairs. Knocks the toys all over the place under the table. Sometimes its hilarious to watch him do little flips all while trying to get a little mouse.

So here I am sick on the couch and he brings me the red mouse. I am not really in the mood to throw it so i just pretend not to notice. So Gadget doesnt like that...he decides to go to his room and in his toy box (yes we bought him a box where we throw ALL of his toys - he has a ton we needed some place to put them all) and brought me a green version of the mouse. Again, I decide i am going to ignore him - well he still did not like that. He brought a total of 5 toys - 2 mice and 3 different plastic balls. So now i feel like fine you cat i will play for a few minutes. So i throw his toy and he plays fetch for a good 20 minutes. I decide i really need to rest, the meds are knocking me out like they are suppose to, so I head into the bedroom and curl up on the bed. The next thing i know i have a red mouse on my chest and the cat looking down at me...he wasnt done playing...

So now i need to wait for my husband to get home so i can sleep and he can entertain Gadget because the cat is the most important member of the family....however, do not bother him when he is sleeping he will just look at you and whine....

so now the cat is chilling on the small sofa...i might be able to shut my eyes for about 20 minutes before he notices...lets hope....

Gadget: a small background

This is a blog about my crazy cat named Gadget.

He is not your usual cat. He does not always do normal cat-like things.

From the stories I will post you will see how my cat keeps me entertained day in and day out.

I guess I should give you all a little background on Gadget:

I adopted him from the local Petco right after moving into my new apartment. My mom bought him for me as a house warming gift. My boyfriend was a bit pissed at me for getting a pet so soon but after looking into his cute eyes he forgave me.
I wanted him because he was different from the other kittens that were there. He extra toes - not just on his front 2 paws but on his back paws too - what can I say he is special. He was 3 months old when I got him and he had these HUGE ears, very long tail and huge mountain lion looking paws. He looked like a wild cat even from a very young age. He grew really fast and has finally now, after a year and a half has finally grown into his ears, tail and paws.

That is the only background you all get, mainly because most of the stories/adventures will have you rolling on the floor and other stories will have you saying what a stupid cat...and to be honest he most of the time is your typical stupid cat but other times I just sit back and wonder what he is thinking...

Let the stories of his past adventures begin and of course anything new and entertaining will also get published...
